Born and raised in Oakland, California, Bozeman real estate agent Jan Schwartz initially attended San Jose State and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  But, longing for some adventure, she exchanged the sorority life for membership in a women’s cooperative when she transferred to the University of Montana in Missoula.  It was there that Jan not only fell in love with Southwest Montana, but also met and married Jim, her husband of 45 years.  The two moved to Bozeman in 1976.

Jan truly enjoyed the experience of selling their Missoula house and then finding and purchasing their Bozeman home.  So, in 1977, she transitioned out of a career in social work and began her journey into Montana real estate.  Quickly learning the trends in Bozeman, Big Sky and the greater Gallatin area, she began her career that now spans over 30 years of local and regional experience.  And she still lives in that first and favorite Bozeman home!

Proven Leadership
A Broker/Owner, Jan brought Keller Williams Realty to Montana in 2001. Leading her own dynamic real estate team, her innovation has brought Keller Williams to a leading position in the Northwest region (Minnesota, Wisconsin and Montana).

With Montana newcomers and longtime residents alike, Jan not only ensures a smooth process as they find their spectacular vacation property, make their very first home purchase or obtain their maximum return on an investment, she truly gets to know her clients with unsurpassed caring service. For her, the task of connecting sellers and buyers is completely intertwined with connecting her clients to the land itself and all that the region has to offer.  Jan has been honored, in return, with tremendous client loyalty and a strong referral base.

Remembering Formative Lessons
Jan looks back on her early days in Bozeman real estate as the time when she established her signature approach to client relationships.  “On one mission, I went door-to-door personally inquiring to find the perfect lot for a Missoula builder,” she shares.  “It was legwork – literally!  But I was learning valuable negotiating skills.  More than that, I formed a very close friendship with the couple who did wind up selling a small lot adjacent to their property.”

On another occasion, in the 1980’s, she had a client scheduled to fly in to look at a possible land purchase in the Bridger Mountains.  After a blizzard delayed his flight a full day, Jan finally met him at the airport carrying her husband’s parka and outdoor gear.  In heavy snow, they researched the possibilities.  It became a true Montana adventure for the man, and, thanks to Jan, he had the photos to prove it to everyone back home.  The man did indeed find the perfect parcel, signed a buy-sell, and came back to see the land – a little greener – the following summer.

Jan is still enjoying adventures with her clients.  While still frequently taking care of first-time buyers and those looking for Montana investment properties, she especially enjoys serving active adults who are looking for the perfect luxury home or Rocky Mountain retirement property.  Now holding her Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) certification, she loves assisting with that exciting 55-and-older transition time. Her Own Montana Lifestyle
With their two sons grown, Jan and Jim now have four grandchildren.  When not meeting with clients or enjoying international travel, Jan can be found at her Bozeman home cooking for guests, playing bridge with friends or hiking the nearby foothills with her three-year old Schnoodle Stella.  She and Jim also have a small cottage in Virginia City where Jim, a retired MSU accounting professor, enjoys bird-hunting in the Graveley Mountains with his black lab, Hondo.

Jan’s many favorite Montana destinations and activities include:

  • Taking in local A&E: Bozeman Symphony, Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts, The Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture
  • Montana State University sporting events – football and basketball season ticket holder!
  • Shopping downtown Bozeman – “We have such incredible little boutiques”
  • Scenic drives – up Bridger Canyon, to Chico Hot Springs, Big Sky and Yellowstone National Park
  • “Relaxing at our condo in Big Fork!”

Jan looks forward to sharing her Montana real estate expertise with you.  Even more, she can’t wait to connect you to all that the region has to offer!
